Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have claimed the lives of at least eight individuals, including a child, according to medical reports from the region. These casualties occurred despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement that has been in place for the past year.

In northern Gaza City, hospital authorities reported that three civilians, among them one child, were killed when a missile struck near the Cairo School located in the Al-Rimal district. Simultaneously, in the southern region of Khan Younis, a drone strike hit a group of police officers performing their regular duties within the Al-Mawasi area. The Hamas-administered interior ministry confirmed that five officers, ranging in age from 23 to 53, were killed in the incident. Officials from the ministry condemned the drone strike, characterizing the event as a “horrific massacre” committed by Israeli forces.

In response to inquiries regarding these events, the Israeli military acknowledged conducting two strikes targeting individuals they identified as military operatives. However, they have not yet disclosed specific details or provided documentation to support these classifications.

While a ceasefire was established in October of last year to conclude the hostilities that began following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks, military activity has persisted. Since the initiation of the ceasefire, Gaza’s health ministry reports that approximately 1,580 people have been killed, a figure acknowledged as credible by the United Nations. Throughout the broader conflict, which originated after 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage in Israel, the total death toll in Gaza has reached 74,594.

The ceasefire agreement was originally intended to facilitate the release of all remaining hostages held in Gaza in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners, aiming to bring a definitive end to the war. Despite these terms, daily airstrikes continue to be a feature of life in the territory. While Israel maintains that its operations are focused on Hamas, the persistent violence frequently results in civilian fatalities. Efforts to secure a long-term peace plan, previously facilitated by the Trump administration, currently remain at a standstill.
