Google Messages Rolls Out Major Redesign for Pinned Chats and Search Bar

Tech giant Google is introducing a comprehensive visual overhaul for several of its core Android applications, with Google Messages receiving a prominent redesign for its pinned chats and search functionality. The updates are part of a broader stylistic refresh rolling out across Google Contacts, Messages, and the Phone app.

In Google Messages, pinned conversations are getting a substantial makeover inspired by modern messaging standards similar to Apple’s iMessage interface. This update aims to give users a cleaner, more organized way to keep their most important chats easily accessible at the top of the application window. Additionally, the search bar is being relocated to improve one-handed usability and navigation efficiency.

Accompanying these functional adjustments is a vibrant visual update featuring new gradient icon designs. The refreshed icons for Contacts, Messages, and Phone introduce a more cohesive and contemporary aesthetic across the Android ecosystem, signaling Google’s ongoing commitment to refining its Material You design language.

The updated features and redesigned icons are currently rolling out progressively to users worldwide via automatic application updates through the Google Play Store.
