Ten iconic Australian songs have officially become the very first tracks inducted into the newly established National Songbook, a digital archive created to celebrate and preserve music that has shaped the nation’s cultural identity. Among the pioneering selections are Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty’, Midnight Oil’s ‘Beds Are Burning’, and Helen Reddy’s ‘I Am Woman’.

The initiative, which will expand annually, was launched at the National Film and Sound Archive located in Canberra. The project is a collaborative effort between the archive and the music rights organization Apra Amcos. An expert panel consisting of eleven prominent music professionals, including broadcasters and composers, carefully selected the inaugural tracks after a rigorous judging process.
