2026 China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival Opens in Xiamen

The 2026 China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival officially commenced in the coastal city of Xiamen, marking another milestone for the prestigious event. As one of the most significant celebrations of Chinese cinema, the festival has once again transformed Xiamen into a vibrant hub of artistic exchange, industry networking, and cultural showcase.

The opening ceremony was a spectacular display of light and sound, themed around the concept of ’light and shadow returning to the tide.’ Attendees included prominent filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the past year. The festival serves as a platform to honor excellence in film production, directing, and acting, while also fostering discussions on the future of the Chinese film industry.

Since Xiamen became the permanent host city for the Golden Rooster Awards, the local film industry has seen a remarkable transformation. The city has evolved from being a ’natural studio’—prized for its picturesque landscapes—into a high-quality production hub. Local authorities have invested heavily in infrastructure and talent development, attracting major production companies and fostering a creative ecosystem that supports both commercial blockbusters and independent art-house projects.

Throughout the festival, a series of screenings, forums, and awards ceremonies will take place, highlighting the diversity and depth of contemporary Chinese storytelling. The event is expected to draw significant public attention, further cementing Xiamen’s reputation as a key player in the nation’s cultural landscape. As the festival progresses, the focus remains on promoting high-quality content that resonates with both domestic and international audiences.
